3 and 4 Year Old

Our introduction to sport starts at this age and is a simple to follow program and, with parent support, all involved have great fun. We run a variety of activities that are short and fun, to keep children on task. At enrolment each child receives their own ball/racquet/bat to keep, take home and use for practise.

Our most popular age group for parents starting their child in sporting activities. The program is structured so that there is minimal waiting for turns and plenty of movement throughout the 45 minutes lesson.

With each child having their own piece of equipment, waiting for a turn is minimal so children are kept moving. Listening, following instructions and activities that will keep their interest along with plenty of encouragement makes our 3 and 4 year old sessions a blast!

Our 3 and 4 year old groups require a partner for some activities, so parent or guardian participation is necessary. We find a lot of children starting out in sport are very apprehensive when arriving at their first session and our research shows us that children learn better when participating with someone they know. Our feedback has also shown us that parents and guardians have also had a great time.

We run a variety of activities that will improve their general hand-eye co-ordination and gross- motor skills. Our program helps children learn in a teaching environment as well as waiting for a turn and interacting with other children around the same age. Parent involvement is required.

all ages

5 and 6 Year Old

Our 5 and 6 year old group does not require parent participation but parents do need to stay throughout the program. The types of activities are now leaning towards children that are at school and used to following instructions. In addition to the listening and taking turns, children now partner up with another child for some activities.

We still have children moving all the time and, with their own ball or racquet/bat, there is minimal waiting for turns to use equipment. The activities are a little more challenging but also still focusing on the basics of the chosen sport. Every sport will cover hand-eye and foot-eye activities and a reminder that we have no competitive game play.

7, 8 and 9 Year Old

The oldest program we run is ideal for that lead into playing the chosen sport at a competitive club or school level. We still make sure all the basics are covered through activities but also throw in some little 1 : 1 and 2 : 2 games style activities that improve team work and sharing in a “mini” type team environment. This group does not require parent participation but parents do need to stay throughout the program.

We have no competitive game play in any age groups of our programs. A common question from some parents is why do we not play organised games Our focus is teaching the skills first and giving them the grounding to progress to games when they are older. We like to think that playing a game at young ages is like a pack of seagulls after a loose chip! Through experience we have found that only a few children actually get to touch the ball in a game situation, with the rest of children running up and down eventually getting bored and disheartened because they are not getting a turn.
