Junior Programs (3 – 8 year olds)

Demand for activities for pre-schoolers has created this exciting program that allows children to try a sport program for the first time in a fun, learning environment.  Get Active Sports Junior Programs have locations throughout Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth. This program is a great introduction for 3 to 8 year olds to soccer, basketball, tennis, cricket or aussie rules.

All programs are held indoors so the sessions will never be affected by weather!  We also run our program indoors so there are less distractions and this helps keep the children’s focus.  Sports are rotated through different centres and at different times of the year.

Our “Juniors” program consists of 6 weekly sessions.  Every week they are at the same time, on the same day and go for 45 minutes.  While the session goes for 45 minutes each drill or skill-game is only planned in small sections to keep everyone’s attention. Our programs concentrate on beginner principles and not game play.

The reason our programs go for 6 weeks each term is because all terms are different in length.  There are sometimes things that pop up through the term such venue unavailability and being family friendly, we do not run our programs over long weekends.

Our 3 and 4 year old groups require a partner for some activities, so parent or guardian participation is necessary.  We find a lot of children when starting out in sport are very apprehensive when arriving at their first session and children learn better and are more comfortable when participating with someone they know.  Our feedback has also shown us that parents and guardians have also had a great time.

Get Active Sports Junior programs will allow your child to learn at a speed that makes them feel comfortable, and with a familiar person assisting, everyone will have a ball. Included in the program fee is a ball of the chosen sport, cricket bat or tennis racquet. We want your child to not only attend our lessons, but keep them active when they get home by practicing. Kids always find it exciting when they receive something to take home and parents love it as well.

Children improve skills and confidence by doing the same sport/skills of their chosen sport each week. We also find that most children really want to try that sport and are not interested in having the sport change every couple of weeks. On our Sports page, we have listed some brief information about each sport we run so that you have idea what your child might learn through the 6 week block of lessons.

As our maximum class sizes change with sport, age group and venue, please check at the time of registration if you would like to know.

We have 3 different programs to cater for the different ages of our participants.  Our first is a 3 and 4 year old program, designed for pre-schoolers with parent help required.  We then have another level up to cater for our 5 and 6 year old children, and lastly we have a 7 and 8 year old program for our older children with more active and challenging activities.

As mentioned earlier we have no competitive game play in any age groups of our programs. We are about teaching the skills first and giving them the grounding to progress to games when they are older. We like to think that playing a game at young ages is like a pack of seagulls after a loose chip!  Through experience we find that, in a game situation, only a few children actually get to touch the ball with the rest of children running up and down eventually getting bored because they are not involved.

Our programs and activities are designed to keep everyone moving as much as possible with small lines and partner work.

All our sports run all year round with more of each sport in the seasons that they normally run in the year.

Get Active Sports searches for the best coaches possible to teach these programs with a majority of coaches either being a qualified teacher or hold high accreditation in their chosen sport.  Most importantly they are friendly and really enjoy working with children.
